Newberry Main Street at a Glance………..

Our Mission Statement is: “Enhancing a downtown through sound Economic development that promotes our future while preserving our past.”

I attended the National Main Street Conference in Detroit Michigan this past month. The conference titled “Works in Progress” offered important lessons on resilience, innovation and hard work, all of which exemplify the Main Street movement across the country and could be seen first-hand in Detroit: a city that is actively building on its cultural and heritage assets to overcome economic challenges.

Throughout the state of Florida, many towns are discovering that the Main Street approach can bring about dramatic positive change downtown. Main Street encourages economic development within the context of historic Preservation. As a matter of fact, $2.3 billion has been reinvested. Yes, that’s right $2.3 billion—the amount of private and public money reinvested in Florida Main Street communities since 1985 when the Florida Main Street Program was established. This has created 6,442 new businesses, 22,487 employment, and 786,882.65 volunteer hours. Also, this has re-established and preserved so many historic downtowns all across Florida.
